Solskjaer speaks on Pogba leaving Man Utd tomorrow

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken on the rumours linking midfielder Paul Pogba away from the club, saying the 26-year old is happy at Old Trafford.

Solksjaer’s comments were in response to Real boss Zinedine Zidane suggesting anything could still happen before the European window closes tomorrow at 5pm.

The Spanish giants have £150million to blow before then but, according to Solskjaer, they can forget about a last-gasp swoop for his French World Cup winner.

And that’s despite Pogba resisting the offer of a new contract at United.

After United’s 1-1 draw at Southampton , the Norwegian, asked about Zidane’s remarks, said: “Paul Pogba will be playing for us.”

Pogba scarcely looked full of the joys of life on the south coast as he delivered one of those dodgy displays that have become his trademark during his second spell at the club.

The ex-Juventus playmaker had a shocker – losing possession on numerous occasions and rarely bothering to chase back. But for Daniel James’s third goal in four games, the visitors may well have suffered their first defeat at Southampton in 16 years.

Solskjaer, though, refused to put the boot into Pogba. Instead, he defended his performance by claiming everyone demands too much from his star asset.

The Old Trafford supremo, with three wins in the last 16 games, went on: “As a team, after about half an hour, we started giving sloppy balls away.

“Paul was one of them, but he wasn’t any different to anyone else. We didn’t play well.

“Everyone expects everything from him every game. He has to defend, he has to attack, he has to win headers, he has to win tackles, he has to dribble past people, he has to make passes.

“That’s just Paul – and he’ll thrive on that.”

He then revealed Pogba had played through the pain barrier in the final stages against the Saints after suffering an ankle injury.

Solskjaer confirmed: “He got a bad knock on it and twisted it but he’ll will go away on international duty.

“Hopefully, it’s not too bad and he can play for France because I know how much he loves his country.”
